What is CBD?

CBD is from the family of compounds that occur naturally in the Cannabis plant. This group of compounds, called cannabinoids, have been popping up in shops and news articles in the UK. But what does CBD do, and how does it work?

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is the none psychoactive cousin of THC. THC is what most people are familiar and is what gives cannabis its ‘high’. Whilst THC fits like a key in a lock in our endocannabinoid system, CBD is thought to indirectly stimulate the bodies

endocannabinoid system by causing the body to produce more anandamide, the bodies naturally occurring cannabinoid. It is thought through this process, along with interactions with other receptor sites throughout the body, give rise to the effects of CBD. Want to add a caption to this image? What are the effects of CBD?

Whilst we make no medical claims about our CBD containing products, CBD is currently used by doctors to treat epilepsy. GW Pharmaceuticals for instance make the CBD isolate containing product “Epidiolex” which is used to treat treatment resistant epilepsy[i]. Some people believe that CBD has a calming effect on the body, and some research shows that CBD interacts with the 5-HT1A receptor which has a role in reducing anxiety and pain.[ii]

Will CBD get me high?

The short answer is no, CBD cannot get you high. CBD interacts indirectly with the bodies endocannabinoid system and therefore does not directly stimulate the receptors that are responsible for the high of THC. However, it is thought that CBD enhances the bodies own natural cannabinoidm anandamide, which may be responsible for any effects.[iii]

Our CBD Products

At Honey Scents CBD is available across our whole range of Waxmelts. Our CBD range is infused with 20mg of CBD isolate, and contain no THC. We do not make any medical claims regarding our products, and they are used at your own discretion. As they release CBD directly into the air, we advise that they are best suited to smaller rooms and are ideal for bathtimes, though sitting near to a CBD melt will also ensure you get a dose of CBD.
